Henkel Sells Cognis for Euro 2.6 BN
(October 2001 issue of PRA's News of the Month)

Henkel has sold its speciality chemicals business to Schroder Ventures and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners for euro 2.6BN in one of the largest leveraged buyouts in the chemicals industry. Under the terms of the agreement, the buyers can withdraw from the deal within the next two months in view of market uncertainties.

Cognis had sales of euro 3.2BN last year, accounting for 23% of Henkel's turnover.
