Automation
with Statfield

Automation of powder coating becomes easy with Statfield
In today’s industrial fast moving world speedy production and
accuracy in quality plays vital role. To cope up with these
requirements automation of plant is the option one can think of.
Statfield introduces its automatic powder coating equipment
“RECIPROCATOR” which has qualities to withstand all these
expectations. Reciprocator moves up and down and coat article
completely. It works continuously and results into faster and higher
production. You can increase the number of guns to be mounted on
reciprocator for speedy production. It gives uniform coating
thickness & finish which eliminates human error to some extent. This
reduces labor dependency and wastages of uneven coatings. By this,
the coating cost is considerably saved and labor involvement is
minimized.
The Reciprocator is operator friendly & consistent in performance.
It is very easy to adjust stroke length as per articles length and
operator’s choice. The robust design coupled with Statfield's unique
design makes this a trouble free and maintenance free machine.
Features:
Variable stroke length to suit article height.
Variable speed.
Programmable zone control.
Adjustment of stroke and speed of reciprocator to suit individual
application
Smooth reversal at the end of stroke which ensures excellent
coverage for article surface with poor access.
User friendly 15 key keyboard allows operator to perform all the
required functions with his finger tips.
System can withstand wide variation in voltage.
Error message display facility is provided to detect the fault
easily.
Hooters warning for every error.
Maintenance free lubricated gear box.
On your present conveyorised plant we can mount our reciprocator.

PPG Launches 'Green' ZIRCOBOND
Pretreatment
TROY, Mich., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PPG Industries has announced
the launch of a new, environmentally-responsible automotive pretreatment
technology at CAMI Automotive's production facility in Ingersoll, Ont.,
Canada. CAMI, an independently incorporated joint venture of Suzuki Motor
Corporation and General Motors of Canada Ltd., began processing vehicles
with Zircobond pretreatment in early January and moved to full-scale
production Jan. 14.
Metal pretreatment cleans and provides corrosion protection to automotive
body surfaces. However, traditional zinc-phosphate pretreatment processes
generate sludge containing heavy metals such as nickel, zinc and manganese,
making them subject to environmental regulations.
As a result, PPG has devloped Zircobond pretreatment, an alternative
pretreatment based on zirconium chemistry and a proprietary blend of
additives. Zircobond pretreatment cuts sludge byproduct from the
pretreatment process by at least 80 percent compared to zinc-phosphate-based
products, and it can be used in existing pretreatment lines.
Additionally, estimates show that facilities using Zircobond pretreatment
can realize annual savings of up to several hundred thousand dollars on
energy, maintenance and labor costs. Savings potential is even greater in
greenfield applications, where fewer process stages could generate as much
as several million dollars in savings on new facility capital investments.<more>

Wei Ying Yang, Deputy GM of the National Stadium Co. and Michael Koenig,

Occupational exposure as a painter is “carcinogenic to humans”
Epidemiological studies of painters have consistently found small but
significant increases in the risk of lung cancer and bladder cancer. In
addition, several studies of painters have found increased levels of genetic
damage.
Four of five case-control studies found significant increases in childhood
leukaemia associated with maternal exposure before or during pregnancy,
although findings were inconsistent for lymphatic and haematopoietic cancers
in the painters themselves.
Painters are exposed to numerous chemical solvents, pigments, and additives.
They can also be exposed to other workplace hazards such as asbestos and
crystalline silica. The available information is not specific enough to
identify particular agents as the cause of the excess lung or bladder
cancers. It also cannot be determined whether the cancer risks have
increased or decreased with changes in the solvents, pigments, and additives
used in paints.<more>
OSHA Inquiry Continues into
Painter Deaths at Hydro Plant
The Occupational Safety & Health Administration is continuing to investigate
the accident that led to the deaths of five painters at a Colorado
hydroelectric plant, according to Herb Gibson of OSHA’s Region 8 Denver
office. The accident occurred at the Xcel Energy Cabin Creek Hydroelectric
Plant in Georgetown, Colorado, on October 2.
A fire started in a penstock where a crew of nine painters was conducting
maintenance painting, according to information released from the Clear Creek
County Sheriff’s Office. The penstock is a long, sloping pipeline with its
upper end in the intake reservoir and its lower end in the discharge area.
In an October 4 press release, the Sheriff’s Office reported that the fire
burned 1,400 ft up the penstock.
Four crew members escaped at the lower end of the penstock, but the
remaining five were trapped above the fire and died. The painters worked for
RPI Coating, based in Santa Fe, CA. Dead are Anthony Aguirre, Donald
Dejaynes, Gary Foster, Dupree Holt, and James St. Peters, according to the
Sheriff’s Office.

non-ionic surfactants plant in Singapore’s Jurong Island. The facility,
which comes via a ¥ 3 billion investment from the company, will be completed
near the end of 2008 and swing into operation in spring 2009. Initial
production capacity will be 3,000 tpa, which it is said will be expanded to
5,000 tpa within two years’ time.
Shigeru Sekine, Nikko Chemicals’ president, said “With the new output, we
will step up the expansion of our businesses in China and other Asian

Action against Bajaj Auto,
Kansai Nerolac
MPCB has issued so-called
show-cause notices to the two firms asking them to provide reasons why their
two plants in the state should not be closed for this violation
Mumbai: Maharashtra’s pollution control agency has initiated action against
Bajaj Auto Ltd and Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd for allegedly violating rules
related to the disposal of hazardous waste.
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued so-called
show-cause notices to the two firms asking them to provide reasons why their
two plants in the state should not be closed for this violation. The notices
were sent on 24 January after the board found 50 tonnes of paint spilt near
the Aurangabad plant of Bajaj Auto.
“MPCB has taken a note of the violation of hazardous waste rules by these
industrial units. We have sent show- cause notices to both the companies,”
said a senior board official, who did not wish to be identified.
MPCB has given 15 days to both the firms to respond. However, it rarely asks
firms to close their units; usually the firms have to pay a fine. According
to the MPCB official, it levies a penalty of Rs17,000 per tonne of paint
spilt.
Bajaj Auto’s vice-president (corporate) C.P. Tripathi said that the spillage
of paint had occurred when miscreants had tampered with a consignment of 185
barrels of paint that was being sent back to its supplier in Mumbai. “The
spillage occurred when miscreants tampered with the paint barrels, far away
from our plant. We are not responsible for it in anyway. It’s the
contractor’s responsibility,” he added. <more>
