Berger Paints opens Oman's biggest paint project Muscat: Leading global paint manufacturer Berger Paints has ramped up operations in the Sultanate with the launch of a new mega-sized facility that has the potential to transform Oman into a powerhouse in the multi-billion dollar paints and coatings industry in the region. Located in Sohar Industrial Estate, the state-of-the-art plant was formally inaugurated on December 14, at a ceremony attended by senior government officials, as well as top-level executives of the project's joint venture partners -- Al Hassan Group of Companies (Oman) and India-based Asian Paints. <more> Bhopal Gas Tragedy: Dow Chemical Fails To Appear In Court For Third Time BHOPAL: For the third consecutive time, US chemical giant Dow Chemical has failed to turn up before a court in Bhopal in connection with 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy case following which the hearing has been posted for July next year This is the third time that Dow, which wholly owns Union Carbide Corporation (UCC), ignored summons of the district court in Bhopal and failed to appear before it yesterday. Tons of toxic Methyl Isocyanate (MIC) gas leaked from Union Carbide's Bhopal factory on the intervening night of December 2-3, 1984, killing nearly 25,000 people and injuring half million others.<more> Jenson & Nicholson (India) Ltd to assign or lease company's trademarks Jenson & Nicholson (India) Ltd has informed BSE that a Trademark License cum Assignment Agreement has been made/executed on December 21, 2015 by and between Jenson & Nicholson (India) Ltd., Jenson & Nicholson Paints Private Limited (Wholly owned subsidiary) and Vivid Colors Private Limited (secured lender/pledgee of such trademarks) at Gurgaon to assign/license the Company's trademarks. In this connection the Company also informed that the Shareholders at the Company's 92nd Annual General Meeting held on September 29, 2015 had accorded their approval to such assigning/licensing of the Trademarks to its proposed wholly owned subsidiary at the said meeting<more>. DuPont will cut 1,700 jobs DuPont will cut 1,700 jobs in its home state of Delaware and thousands more globally as it prepares for its merger with Dow Chemical. Dow and DuPont announced earlier this month that they would join to create a giant chemical producer that will eventually be split into three independent companies. At that time, DuPont announced a $700 million cost savings and restructuring program but did not specify how many jobs would be impacted or where. DuPont CEO Ed Breen sent a letter to employees Tuesday informing them that approximately 1,700 Delaware positions would be eliminated in the beginning of the year. DuPont, which has been based in Delaware for 213 years, said it would have preferred to let affected employees know of the news first. But it made the announcement now, amid the holidays, because it is legally required to inform the state by the end of the year of the local job cuts. The company has approximately 54,000 employees worldwide and the restructuring program will ultimately affect about 10 percent of that workforce.<more> JACOBS WINS EPCM CONTRACT FOR INDIAN PLANT U.S. services firm Jacobs Engineering Group has signed a contract to develop and build a paint plant in India on behalf of Asian Paints Ltd. Jacobs will provide engineering, procurement, construction and management services for the project, which is expected to last a total of 37 months. The development is based on a greenfield site and will create a facility capable of producing 300,000 kiloliters of decorative paint per year. "I'm confident our global experience in the chemical industry combined with our strong local knowledge can contribute significant value to this strategically important facility," said Gary Mandel, Jacobs Petroleum and Chemicals president.<more> Global powder coatings demand was 1,680.0 kilo tons in 2011 and is expected to reach 2,667.6 kilo tons in 2018, growing at a CAGR of 6.8% from 2012 to 2018. AkzoNobel and leading Chinese automaker JAC Motors have pioneered the first use of VOC-free powder technology for automotive body coatings. As sustainability continues to gain increasing importance in China, AkzoNobel's Interpon powder technology is being successfully used by JAC for coating SLX truck bodies at its site in Mengcheng, China. "The application of high performance powder coating solutions in body coatings represents a major technological breakthrough in this sector,"said Eddie Wang, business director for AkzoNobel's Powder Coatings business in North Asia. "This partnership demonstrates how we are supporting sustainability in the automotive industry by offering benefits such as minimizing both resource wastage and environmental pollution" Chinese automakers have been looking for ways to meet new coatings standards and Wenping Xing, technical director of JAC Motors, explained that powder coatings offer major opportunities to help meet those requirements. "Environmental friendliness is a top priority as we pursue production technology excellence," she said."Powder coatings have advantages such as high utility rate and zero wastage, making them a sustainable solution of choice for body coatings. Our first power coating line for trucks combined the proven technologies of AkzoNobel and state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. We are now planning a second powder coating line." <more> AkzoNobel Opens Coil Coatings Production Line in Mexico The company claims the line will produce specialty products, including metallic and "wrinkled" finishes. AkzoNobel has opened a production line for coil coatings at its facility in Garcia, Mexico. The line will double the current capacity and serve local coated steel manufacturers, including Ternium, Zincacero and Galvasid. Coil coating products that are manufactured at the site support the construction and domestic appliance sectors. The company says the line will produce specialty products, including metallic and "wrinkled" finishes. Volumes currently imported from the U.S. will now be manufactured locally in Mexico. The line is said to lead to faster response time and quicker color matches, making AkzoNobel more competitive in its markets. BASF donates 150 gallons of paint to United Way ANGLETON- As BASF winds down its 150th anniversary celebration, the petrochemical company is looking to paint the town with the help of the United Way of Brazoria County. The increases are effective Jan 1, 2016 or as contracts ... In Europe the price of titanium dioxide pigments will increase by Euro 150 per tonne or $160 per ton in dollar-based markets. For North America, prices will rise by 7 cents per pound. The new warehouse, which shares close proximity to customers, has offices and a meeting room to ensure a comfortable working environment.<more> EC Requests Scientific Opinion on Three Coatings for Titanium Dioxide (Nano) as UV-Filter in Dermally Applied Cosmetic Products On December 17, 2015, the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) posted a request for a scientific opinion on three coatings for titanium dioxide (nano) as an ultraviolet (UV)-filter in dermally applied cosmetic products. According to the request, the European Commission (EC) received data from industry to assess the safety of the following coatings for titanium dioxide (nano form) used as a UV-filter in dermally applied cosmetic products: cetyl phosphate; manganese dioxide; and triethoxycaprylylsilane. The EC asks whether the SCCS considers safe the use of these materials as coatings for titanium dioxide (nano) used as UV-filter in dermally applied products, and whether the SCCS has any other scientific concerns. The deadline for SCCS's opinion is June 2016.<more> McLaren's Gleaming Supercars Give Akzo Nobel's Paints a Lift Akzo Nobel NV is poised to get a boost from a ramp-up in production at McLaren Automotive Ltd. after it took over the contract from BASF SE to provide coatings for the Formula 1 racing team's million-dollar supercars. McLaren's production line is in "afterburn" due to increasing demand, Alan Foster, executive director of operations at the automaker, told reporters Wednesday. The Woking, England-based company is considering a second daily shift at its factory as it looks to more than double volume to 4,000 road vehicles a year, he said. Hi Vivek , Here in the middle east....we are seeing some effects of slow down...in the world economy..also with sanctions on Iran likely to be lifted...that could bring in additional business challanges...Also many african countries are facing curency exchange availability crisis and so unable to sustain business activities. . 2016 will be interesting to watch..with falling crude pricing and dwindling demand....sustaining business will be a challange..
